Video - Crowdfunded Star Trek movie sued by Paramount, CBS

Star Trek: Axanar, should be released in early 2016

Prelude to Axanar (aka "The Four Years War Part III: Prelude to Axanar") is a fan-made short film, funded through Kickstarter: production sought just $10,000 in funding, but raised $101,000. It public debuted on July 26 2014, at the San Diego Comic-Con. The film is set in the Star Trek universe, recounting the events surrounding the Battle of Axanar, the decisive turning point in the war against the Klingon Empire. It stars Kate Vernon, Tony Todd, Richard Hatch, Gary Graham, and J. G. Hertzler. Only a few days ago, on December 29 2015, CBS and Paramount Pictures filed for an injunction and damages in California federal court, stating "The Axanar works infringed upon their intellectual property by making use of innumerable copyrighted elements of Star Trek, including its settings, characters, species, and themes." Let's hope for the best, as a feature film is in production: Star Trek: Axanar, to be released in early 2016. It raised $638,000 on Kickstarter, bringing production more than six-times the originally sought amount of $100,000.
